An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper was suspended Wednesday for five days without pay following a highly publicized scuffle with a paramedic in Okfuskee County in May, according to the Highway Patrol. The incident, which was caught on dash-camera and cell-phone video, showed Trooper Daniel Martin pulling over a Creek Nation ambulance for a traffic-stop violation. During the incident, Martin is heard repeatedly using profanity and twice getting into a scuffle with one of the paramedics.

Two people died and one was injured Thursday night when a medical helicopter went down in Oklahoma, authorities said. The crash happened near Kingfisher, which is about 50 miles northwest of Oklahoma City. Authorities were alerted about the crash at 9:25 p.m., the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said. The helicopter flight was a training exercise, the highway patrol said.

Five people were killed aboard a single-engine plane that crashed near the McAlester, Oklahoma, airport, authorities said. The weather was clear when the crash occurred around 4:15 p.m. (5:15 p.m. EST) Wednesday, said Oklahoma Highway Patrol spokesman Robert Padgett. Witnesses said the plane was trying to land at the McAlester City Airport. It apparently rolled to the left after engine problems, Padgett said. The highway patrol is one of many agencies that will investigate the accident, he said.

A U.S. Army truck carrying explosives overturned on the Interstate 271 bypass just south of Interstate 70 early Thursday in Hugo, Oklahoma, spilling its cargo and injuring at least two people. Two injured military personnel were transported to Choctaw Memorial Hospital in Hugo, but the severity of their injuries was not known, said Capt. Gerald Davidson of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. As a precaution, a 1-mile radius around the accident had been evacuated, including an elementary school several blocks away.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Erin turned central Oklahoma into a wash basin Sunday, with rescuers on helicopters plucking people from flood waters and rooftops and ferrying them to safety. Two people died and at least two others were hurt, said Michelann Ooten, a spokesman for the state's emergency operations center in Oklahoma City. A middle-aged man who had stopped to help another person wound up drowning in his vehicle near Kingfisher, Oklahoma, and an elderly woman in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma, who had sought protection in her storm cellar drowned there, Ooten said.

Winter weather was blamed for at least five traffic deaths as freezing rain and sleet blanketed areas from Texas to Kentucky on Tuesday. Bridges and roads iced over as the storm system headed east toward the Washington area, where several inches of snow were expected. The National Weather Service issued ice storm warnings from Dallas, Texas, to just north of Memphis, Tennessee. The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority said a truck driver was killed Monday when his cab skidded off an icy stretch of Interstate 44 near Chandler, according to CNN affiliate KOCO-TV.

Authorities in western Oklahoma said Tuesday they were responding to a prison riot at the North Fork Correctional Facility, where multiple injuries were reported. A morgue had been set up in a tent outside the prison, according to a witness, though there had been no reports of deaths. More than 20 people, all inmates, were injured in the riot and at least five were flown to area hospitals, according to Julie Heavrin of Air Evac Lifeteam. She said she had no information regarding their conditions.

The son of late evangelist Oral Roberts and former president of Oral Roberts University was arrested early Tuesday on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding, authorities said. Richard Roberts, 63, was stopped by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol just after midnight after a trooper observed him traveling at about 93 mph on a turnpike in his Mercedes-Benz sedan, according to an arrest report. The speed limit on the road is 65 mph, the report said. The trooper "detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage about Roberts' breath and person," the report said, and Roberts failed field sobriety tests.

FBI agents are looking into who left what appeared to be a crude explosive device attached to a natural gas line in rural Oklahoma, the bureau said Wednesday. The "potential explosive device" was found late Wednesday morning outside Okemah, about 70 miles east of Oklahoma City, the FBI's Oklahoma City bureau said in a statement. Bureau spokesman Clay Simmonds said authorities used a water cannon to disrupt the device and took it to a laboratory for examination. "We don't have any leads at this moment.
