A woman sunbathing on a boat died after a stingray leaped from the water off the Florida Keys on Thursday and struck her, officials said. "It's just as freakish of an accident as I have heard," said Jorge Pino of Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. "The chances of this occurring are so remote that most of us are completely astonished that this happened. " He said it was not clear whether the 55-year-old Michigan woman died from the blow to her head, from the ray's barb piercing her or from her fall backward.

Big hair, bold makeup and a biker-chic black outfit is de rigueur for the New York City woman. And it's especially appropriate when she's really an alien-turned-lingerie model who's plotting to take over the world, like Serleena, Lara Flynn Boyle's character in "Men In Black II. " "That's why she's a little more 'done' than most people on the streets," says hair stylist Jan Alexander. But Boyle's biggest challenge was the custom-made body-hugging outfit she wears throughout the film.

"Rats have rights! Survive on Veggies!" was the rallying cry of eight demonstrators outside of CBS' Manhattan studios Friday morning. Members of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, one of them dressed in a giant rat suit, picketed the network because contestants on its hit adventure game show, "Survivor," roasted rats and ate them on this week's episode. The rats were eaten, along with a stingray on the Wednesday night installment. RaeLeeann Smith, a PETA spokeswoman said, CBS should show ways of surviving on an island "using the rich vegetation, not by abusing rats and stingrays.

AmazonQuest is an interactive expedition developed by Classroom Connect. For five weeks, a team of scientists and explorers are examining one of the most distinctive and most threatened environments on Earth: the Amazon River basin. Nick woke up this morning, which was good. After Carlos squeezed the juice of "planta de raya" in Nick's stingray wound, the pain subsided some, but his head started spinning. We led him to a tent, wrapped him in a sheet, and let him sleep. Dan and Bernadette checked on him every hour.

There's a new threat among us. It is faceless and fiendishly intelligent, with only one goal: to destroy its enemies. It feeds on technology, but also on something darker, gathering information it stores in an all-seeing nerve center. How dark is it? Let's just say this: It has downloaded every last song available on the Internet. Look out, al-Qaeda! In "Stealth," a high-velocity, low-concept sky-attack thriller, the world is under siege by terrorists and rogue warlords, but the real danger is a foe more homegrown and familiar: your new wingman.

As 2006 draws to a close, we take a look back at the stories that have dominated headlines over the last 12 months. January 25: Hamas election victory In elections to the Palestinian Legislative Council (also known as the Palestinian Parliament,) the main ruling body of the Palestinian National Authority, Hamas -- a group listed as a terrorist organization by, among others, the U.S., UK and European Union -- won a shock victory over the incumbent ruling Fatah party. Responsible for numerous suicide bombings against Israel, and with a founding charter that explicitly calls for Israel's destruction, Hamas' victory cast a pall over an already moribund peace process.

A tour operator says he plans to make no changes to daily trips to Stingray City, about 8 kilometers (5 miles) off Grand Cayman Island, despite the death of naturalist Steve Irwin when a stingray plunged a barb into his chest off Australia. "I think the phenomenon is totally different to what you encounter in the wild," said Mark Button, an operator for Moby Dick Tours, which for more than 20 years has been taking tourists to a location where 50 stingrays await handouts of squid from their mammalian visitors.

The cartoon series "South Park" has never been shy of courting controversy, but its latest episode has caused outrage by featuring the recently deceased Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin. Swearing and random death and destruction are staples of the cartoon, which has been broadcast since 1997. Irwin, killed by a stingray's barb while snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef in September is the latest celebrity to be lampooned by the show. The episode, aired in the U.S. earlier this week, shows Satan preparing to host a Halloween fancy dress party.
